Report: Suburban Bergen County increasingly harboring heroin mills

By Myles Ma/NJ.com

BERGEN COUNTY — Law enforcement officials are increasingly focusing on heroin mills in suburbs like Fort Lee, Ridgefield Park and Maywood as they try to get drugs off the streets, the Record reported.

Heroin processors can run 24-hour-a-day operations at nondescript rented residences in such neighborhoods because they draw less attention from neighbors or police. The increase in suburban mills is also due to a rise in opiate addictions among middle-class New Jersey residents.

Breaking such mills takes weeks of work and coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies, investigators said.
