The Borough of Maywood passed a resolution on May 19 to authorize the borough engineer, Neglia Engineering Associates, to proceed with construction management services for storm and sanitary sewer improvements.

Previously, the borough went out to bond in the amount of $1,840,000 for sewer improvements. Maywood has received low interest financing for the improvements through the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Financing Program which comes through the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP.) The funds are to be used for financing various improvements to sanitary and storm sewers, particularly improvements along Lincoln and Mendez avenues.

Neglia Engineering Associates submitted to the mayor and council a proposal for construction management for $67,500.

The sewer improvements being planning are relining the sewer pipes along Lincoln and Mendez avenues.

"They will be lined with a fiberglass lining that will eliminate the cracks and the leaks," said Borough Administrator Tom Richards. "It will eliminate infiltration and greatly reduce our sewer bills, probably not this year, but will reduce our bills this next year."

The borough is going out to bid for the construction.

The administrator did not yet know the estimated schedule for the project.
